1. "AI that answers" vs. "AI that works" — what's the difference?
The difference between today's AI and tomorrow's AI looks like this:

Tomorrow's AI (agentic type)

In short, AI moves the mouse and keyboard itself. That's what "Agentic" (autonomous) means.
2. What is actually happening?
The main moves, lined up:
- Anthropic Computer Use ── Claude looks at the screen and operates mouse and keyboard[1]
- Google Gemini Spark ── personal agent that runs in the background 24/7[2]
- NVIDIA RTX Spark ── AI chip for local PC execution (see separate article)
- Various Agent SDKs ── toolkits for developers to assemble agents
All of these are arriving simultaneously in 2025–2026. That is the reason it's called "Year One of Agentic AI."
3. An analogy: "promotion" from new hire to mid-career
Yesterday's AI was "a sharp but completely hand-held new hire." Agentic AI is "the mid-career person who looks at the calendar, drafts the email, sets up the meeting — all by themselves."
New-hire AI
"Make an agenda for tomorrow's meeting"
→ opens Word, asks about the format, asks how to print, asks everything as it goes.
Mid-career AI
"Make an agenda for tomorrow's meeting"
→ "Got it, I'll share when it's done" and quietly wraps it up.
What's happening in 2026 is AI getting "promoted" from new hire to mid-career.
4. What becomes possible?
In concrete daily tasks:
- Check the calendar, set up the meeting
- Reply to email (reading the counterparty's context)
- Update spreadsheets
- Enter data into internal systems
- Search the web and produce a summary report
- Execute workflows that span multiple apps
In other words, we're getting close to a state where "about 50% of the clerical work humans used to do can be handed to AI."
5. But, wait a moment
We can't just talk about the bright future. Agentic AI brings new risks.
- AI moving "on its own" can send wrong emails or delete data
- An unsupervised agent may act while hallucinating
- "Who takes responsibility" is not yet legally clarified
- In regulated industries like pharma, healthcare, finance — "the AI did it on its own" is not an excuse
- The pace at which jobs get "replaced by AI" accelerates beyond what we've seen
6. What it means for the pharmaceutical field
Bright side:
- Agents can draft clinical-trial document creation and checking
- Agents can track and propose updates for regulatory documents
- Agents can automatically format documents per internal SOPs
The side to watch:
- If an agent writes wrong information into a submission, it becomes a regulatory violation
- Securing the audit trail becomes more complex than before
- Organizations need a mechanism to retain the "agent's decision log"
In other words: "first build the supervision mechanism, then use it" is the proper sequence in a regulated industry like pharma.
7. Summary
"The era of AI that simply answers" is ending, fast. What comes next is "the era of AI that acts on your behalf."
But before that, your organization needs to decide "who, what, and how far" to entrust to AI. Right now is the last good moment to start that thinking.
