AI and Rare Diseases ── Heart and lung ── 2026-10-17

Baseline clinical variables from 181 patients with PAH feed 6 supervised ML algorithms that predict the relative change in WHO functional class to 12 months. The predicted change rates are converted to 12-month WHO-FC values and linked to externally validated, stratified real-world cost estimates, giving US $12,481 to $12,614 per patient per month. k-nearest neighbors performed best (r=0.40), performance was moderate, and larger multicenter validation is required.
