Detecting signs of hypertension using wearable sensors
Google Research has presented AI-PPG-ACC-HTN, a multimodal AI system that passively detects signs of high blood pressure using a consumer smartwatch without cuff calibration. Validated against 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, it reached accuracy comparable to cuff-based workflows for both initial and confirmatory screening. The research helped inform the blood pressure trends feature of the Health Guardian in the Google Health app.
