Grounding AI agents in biological reality: Building blocks for autonomous wet labs
Frontier AI models do not reliably reason about 3D geometry and physical lab state, which makes automating liquid-handling robots difficult. Google Research grounded AI agents in physical lab robotics so they can run fast closed-loop molecular design cycles. The agents discovered protein binders with single-digit nanomolar affinity for cancer targets.
How Claude is uplifting biomolecular modeling
Open-source models that scientists use to predict and design biomolecules were slow and memory-hungry. Working within Claude Science, Claude optimized more than 30 of these models in just under four weeks, speeding them up roughly 4x on average. It also built a low-memory mode that allows accurate prediction of systems larger than 10,000 tokens on a single NVIDIA GPU node, and the optimized code is being open-sourced.
