Empowering frontline maternal care with AI-assisted ultrasound
A prospective multi-center study shows that AI-based interpretation of "blind sweep" ultrasound scans can let frontline health workers without sonography training deliver expert-level gestational age assessments using low-cost, portable probes. With two-thirds of people worldwide lacking access to diagnostic imaging such as ultrasound, the approach targets a major gap in maternal care. Pairing minimal training with AI interpretation could expand the availability of ultrasound-based pregnancy assessment.
