ceci n'est pas un tagger, can an LLM flavour-tag a jet?
The authors asked whether a large language model can classify the flavour (b, c, light, τ) of hadronic jets using only knowledge from pretraining, without writing code. The model was given reconstructed constituents from a public ATLAS flavour-tagging sample and assigned flavour probabilities. It achieved non-trivial discrimination, which was compared with recent ATLAS algorithms, and its natural-language rationales correlated with the true flavour.
