Electronic crystals and quasicrystals in semiconductor quantum wells: an AI-powered discovery
Researchers developed a neural-network variational approach to study strongly correlated electrons in three-dimensional semiconductor quantum wells across different electron densities and well thicknesses. The first-principles method revealed metallic and crystalline phases with monolayer and bilayer charge distributions, and identified an electronic quasicrystal as a new quantum phase in the emergent bilayer.
