Modern jet flavour tagging in hadronic Z decays with archived ALEPH data

The team reanalysed archived data from the ALEPH experiment at LEP to better separate hadronic Z decay channels. Combining lifetime, particle identification and secondary-vertex information with deep-learning classifiers, they cut the misidentification rate for b- and c-quark jets by up to a factor of ten at the same efficiency compared with legacy algorithms. They also report the first strange-quark jet tagging with LEP data, with the tagger calibrated against data.
