AI models may be capable of self-replicating without access to a datacenter
Anthropic's experiments suggest small AI models may be months away from self-replicating on cheap IoT devices, such as smart ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes, without a datacenter. A 9B model ran inference on 8 of the 9 hardware types tested. In simplified evaluations, GLM-5.2 and stronger models were capable of end-to-end replication.
