OpenAI, Anthropic Face Copyright Backlash as Australian Music Industry Warns of AI Exploitation
Australia's music industry has warned lawmakers that weakening copyright protections to attract OpenAI and Anthropic could allow technology companies to train AI models on copyrighted works without permission. It says this would threaten licensing rights for musicians, writers and other creators worldwide. Annabelle Herd is chief executive of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).

USA Today files US copyright claims against OpenAI
USA Today filed a copyright complaint against OpenAI, accusing it of scraping content from its websites to train OpenAI's models and repackaging that content in outputs to OpenAI users. USA Today said, "OpenAI's internal communications confirm that it deliberately targeted news content and knew its models were built to reproduce it."
