How Claude designed protein binders against scorpion neurotoxins
As part of its work exploring how Claude can accelerate drug discovery, Anthropic asked an internal research model to design minibinders — small proteins that attach tightly to a target — against scorpion neurotoxins. Working from a prompt and four follow-ups developed with Citrini Research, Claude operated mainly autonomously over 64 hours, and teams at Adaptyv Bio and Twist Bioscience experimentally tested 211 designs, of which 17 met the criteria. All 211 designs and their data are being released as a resource for the field, with the hope they could one day help develop a scorpion antivenom.
