Japan asks US AI firms to expand model access for cyber defense vulnerability checks

The Japanese government has asked major US AI developers to expand the provision of high-performance AI models used for vulnerability checks. The aim is to identify weaknesses in critical government systems amid rising cyberattack threats, and to encourage use by core infrastructure firms such as electricity and telecommunications. A cybersecurity package due as early as next week is to include stronger cooperation with US AI developers.
