Chinese AI Tool Used Against Major South Korean Financial Institutions Spreads Worldwide, Raising Pandemic-Style Attack Fears

The Chinese-developed AI penetration-testing tool ARTEX is suspected of being misused in large-scale cyberattacks targeting major South Korean banks and others. South Korean financial authorities announced on October 14, 2026 that 16 institutions were affected and about 100,000 items of personal data leaked. ARTEX's developer stopped publishing the source code after the misuse, but already distributed code is hard to recall and a commercial version has begun rolling out.
