70% of universities have set AI guidelines

A Ministry of Education survey released on the 6th found that 69.8% of national, public and private universities in Japan have drawn up guidelines on generative AI in education for students and staff. 37.4% of universities permit students to use generative AI in exams and reports. The survey covered fiscal 2024 and received responses from 788 universities; it was the first time it asked about AI use.
